Pulled Endnotes & Footnotes

Pulled notes are not dynamically updated. While note references appear in the text and look just like embedded notes they will not automatically move and renumber. Pulled notes behave in the same manner as regular text; they must be moved and numbered manually. It is recommended that you use embedded notes, however there may be instances when it is necessary to use pulled endnotes.

Inserting Pulled Endnotes

  1. Place the insertion point where you want to insert the endnote reference.

  2. Right click the mouse button and select Notes > Insert Pulled Endnote Text Ref.

  3. The note reference NEW_ENR is placed next to the text. Leave this reference alone for now, you can renumber pulled endnotes later.

  4. Place the insertion point where you want to insert the endnote text. Endnotes are normally placed at the end of the document.

  5. Right click the mouse button and select Notes > Insert Pulled Endnote.

  6. The insertion point is placed on a new line, preceded by NEW_ENDNOTE and an endnote merge symbol.

  7. From the TNTEditorial menu, select Utilities > Notes Utilities > Renumber Pulled Endnotes.

  8. TNTEdit renumbers all pulled endnotes from top to bottom starting with the number 1. Existing note numbers are not maintained! You should be absolutely certain that all endnotes are in the correct order before renumbering pulled endnotes.
